| Healthy Communities Massachusetts Healthy Communities Massachusetts (HCM) encourages and supports community-based efforts to improve the health of residents of Massachusetts. We recognize that health is greatly influenced by many things around us - social, economic, political and environmental factors - as well as our own behaviors. HCM employs a community development approach that involves a wide range of local institutions, community groups and private citizens, as well as health professionals, in efforts to improve the conditions that encourage and support healthy living. The healthy communities approach focuses on both process and outcome. The process allows the involvement of the full spectrum of the community in making a positive change in its overall quality of life. The process also re-engages citizens in helping realize their visions for a healthier community. The outcome is a physical and civic environment that promotes healthy individuals in healthy communities. Since 1994, Healthy Communities Massachusetts has been creating a base of operation and support for this important work in cities and towns throughout the state. Accomplishments include: • Distribution of our bi-monthly newsletter to over 1200 individuals and organizations statewide • Convening of statewide trainings and regular meetings Healthy Communities Massachusetts Newsletter Information on the Healthy Communities Institute Information on Health Communities Trainings For more information, contact: Tom Wolff
