Healthy Communities Massachusetts: Institute

The Healthy Communities Massachusetts Institute

The Healthy Communities Massachusetts Institute is structured to assist participants from up to 10 communities create local Healthy Communities efforts. The Institute consists of two, 2 1/2 day training sessions. At the close of the trainings each team will have mapped a unique process to develop a comprehensive healthy communities initiative in their community.

Community teams must represent a variety of constituencies and should be made up of representative leadership from some of the following groups: local government officials, health care, education, faith community, business leaders, public safety, neighborhood associations, cultural community, economic development, environment, youth and grassroots citizens.

Criteria for acceptance to the Institute include: diversity and strength of the team, community history of collaboration, community strengths and resources, perceived need and a capacity to move the initiative forward.

As part of developing the collaborative community leadership necessary for creating Healthy Communities, the Institute is providing limited scholarships to communities to receive training in the Healthy Communities process. Scholarship recipients are expected to attend both sessions and to cover their own room and mileage expenses.
